Juanita's work to return the education of children to the rightful and competent hands of parents and teachers has gained respect throughout Washington State and the nation. Her quest to improve education for all children of Washington State led her to run for Superintendent of Public Instruction, in 2004. She is often an invited speaker on the topics of the politics of education, high-stakes testing and "No Child Left Behind" policy, in university classes and at conferences, most recently the International Dyslexia Association conference, the Washington Association for Learning Alternatives conference and the International Learning Disabilities Association conference.

Juanita believes that when parents and teachers work well together children succeed.
